Loads of Layouts

Good morning lovely people and my take on this week's colour scheme. A lovely blend of colours including a take on purple which is great as despite having ample purple papers rarely do I get chance to play with them. So I took 3 sheets of cardstock and 6 sheets of patterned paper and played. I cut wavy borders by hand, circles with my circle cutter, rectangles and wavy boards. I matted photos where the background papers were making the photos difficult to see - you know what I mean and I added a few fun embellishments, buttons and punched hearts - my favourite. I used some white American Thicker alphas for some of the titles. I also made use of those wavy boards again and tried to make my journalling part of the layout rather than an element in it's own right. I hope you've been inspired to try out this scheme, whether your creativity is scrapbooking, art journalling, mixed media, altered art, knitting, crocheting it doesn't matter what it is - just enjoy the inspiration - Catch ya later Virginia

Hanging Heart

I took an MDF heart, covered it in Pinflair glue, then stuck all the sequins on it. When it was dry there were still a few loose sequins so I covered it in PVA glue, then added a Prima rose and die cut leaf, then added the ribbon as a hanger. I inked the edges and back of the wood with Dylusions mists so it could be also be hung where the back could be seen ie a Christmas tree.

Forty birthday card

This colour scheme can be taken two ways- a gentle palette or fun and vibrant. I've gone with a messy painted version on the latter with a touch of bling!

Mandalas

I love mandalas and these colours reminded me of summer nights in the garden with a few cocktails and the BBQ going. I'm going to add some Aqua tissue paper balls, red and coral candles and black napkins to my decor. What an inspiring colour scheme! The mandala pattern is from issue 7 of simply crochet magazine, rounds 1to 8.

Take 5

I took 3 sheets of cardstock including a vibrant red and a dark steely grey, together with 6 sheets of patterned paper, the joy of a colour challenge is mixing manufacturers - so don't be afraid to rummage! I then tore, cut, and ripped the pages. My current style is to create the base papers first, so I had 5 layouts already pulled together before I selected the photos for each page, then the titles for each page. I used a mix of washi tape and punched items to create the layouts the 'Love the Here and Now' and 'Shaun the Sheep' layouts didn't have the splash of red until the final moments and although not every layout includes every colour within the range, most of them do and the red really does make a difference.
So what are you waiting for go create - you know you want to! Catch ya later Virginia

Button Bowl

How's this for a creative take on the scheme from Lynne?!!

A friend put a link up showing a button bowl made using a balloon. I used a plastic bowl covered in cling film and stuck the buttons in place with PVA.
A coat of PVA over the top & a sprinkle of glitter finished it off.
(I now have a jar of colour sorted buttons).

Brighten grey days

Working with interiors, I have found that grey is the new black...or brown! It's a versatile and sophisticated colour but be careful you don't end up cold!

This weeks scheme would give you the touch of warmth you need. Red will brighten any room and despite the cool colour, aqua will also freshen up the room.

Coral and red touches in wallpaper and cushions will give you punchy accent without taking over the room and taking over your understated grey. John Lewis seedlings wallpaper (top) is ideal for a Scandi feel where as the Osborne and Little Quatrefoil with silver and aqua will give a sophisticated fusion look.
John Lewis also has some funky cushions to accessorise!

Do you feel a shopping trip coming on?

Contempory Vintage Scrapbook

I chose the Kaisercraft Sweet Pea collection for this as it has all the colours in it. I placed the grey CS on top of the red CS to make the grey pop. I then added several layers of paint to incorporate all the colours and then fussy cut all the flowers for the edge of the photo. Once I had cut the circular photo I layered all the flowers around the edge and added some silk flowers with brads as centres and some resin flowers and a title to finish.

Couple of cards

First up is a gorgeous pocket card

This card is based on an idea I saw on Pintrest - yes I do USE it not JUST browse LOL It is a card with a side pocket stitched on and inside the pocket is a bookmark that can be kept and reused after the card is finished with.

                                                             Followed by a simple hi!
Have kept this card very contempory looking with a scruffy inked finished. the thing I love about this colour scheme is how bright it is. I've played down the grey here and made it the accent!

Spring Bunting

Spring bunting made with hand knit cotton and a 5mm crochet hook. For the purposes of photographing I strung three close together but actually I love this size for a bathroom, shed or caravanI've had these little paper roses for years and I'm so glad to have finally used them!

Journal

If there was no change there would be no butterflies.
I started with a layer of gesso on my ledger, and then used acrylics to paint a multicoloured background. I used stamps stencils and sequin waste to add texture. The butterfly was collaged paper and I cut the letters out using a sizzix machine.

Faded Grandeur

I have used that expression for years. I can't remember where it came from but it always summoned images of luxury with a distressed Miss Haversham kind of feel. This is much more opulent than shabby chic and also not so vintage. Funnily enough, I've unintentionally taken the words out of Harlequins mouth when they describe the Leonida range on their website. Pop over and visit here.
If I were to point you in the direction of our colour scheme I would be pulling out the samples and showing you these lovelies!
                                         Eglomise

                                          Adella
                                          Eglomise Velvet

Adella, featured in the photo above, is stunning. It has an ombre to the colour so has beautiful tones of the amethyst and green. The Eglomise wallpaper has a distressed look that runs in a stripe and the velvet has a touch of bling without being to much. This collection is one that always has a wow factor. Could this colour scheme wow one of your rooms?

Until next time! Laura xx

Pins!

Todays take on the colour scheme is a beautiful butterfly pin from Karen!
"The different butterflies were either hand cut or die cut – I used three different sizes.
I embroidered the large butterfly with French knots as well as straight stitches before adding he other two butterflies on the top.
The top butterfly was held into place with three small beads
The two leaves were embroidered before being added to the background felt disk. I stitched on a brooch back so it could be worn as a pin."
Karen

Erika has gone for a more pinky take on the theme!
Today, a rose brooch with inspiration taken from a pattern shared by June at http://www.planetjune.com/.../free-crochet.../basic-rose/
I have added individual leaves to the back and hidden under a circle of felt before adding a brooch pin. The centre is wired bling which is thread to the back and stitched in.
